The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has issued a strong call for immediate intervention following a series of violent incidents in Kauru and Kachia Local Government Areas of Kaduna State. The group has reported widespread destruction of crops, multiple fatalities, and the kidnapping of eight individuals.
In a statement, SOKAPU expressed deep distress over the attacks by herdsmen in Kauru Local Government Area, which have resulted in the loss of crops and lives. The forum criticized the situation as "devastating" and "heartbreaking," particularly given the plight of local farmers struggling to sustain their livelihoods.
Josiah Yusuf Abraks, SOKAPU’s Public Relations Officer, detailed the impact on the community: “Among the victims is a woman caring for her partially blind husband. Her farm was entirely destroyed by the cattle of the rampaging herdsmen.”
The statement highlighted that the perpetrators have yet to be captured, urging Governor Uba Sani and security agencies to take decisive action. SOKAPU also called for the provision of palliatives to help the affected individuals recover and rebuild their lives.
In a broader scope of violence, the statement reported the killing of Dr. Ishaya and the kidnapping of eight others in Kwassam, Kauru LGA. Additionally, the District Head of Garu, Alhaji Babangida Adamu Suleiman, was abducted in Lere LGA, while Pastor Peter Shabanyan was killed in Katul Crossing community of Kachia LGA.
The forum’s statement underscores the urgent need for effective measures to address the escalating violence and ensure the safety of residents in these affected areas.
