Oyo State government has reacted sharply to the comment made by the campaign organisation of former governor of the state, Chief Rashid Ladojo, that it will publish the full account of money it received in the last three and a half years. In a statement signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, special adviser to the governor on public communications, Oyo government said even though its fiscal statistics was already in public domain, it welcomes such an exercise if it will enhance healthy debate and allow people to compare Ladoja’s achievements with that of the Akala administration.
The statement also reminded Senator Ladoja to explain, in the publication, details of why, during his tenure, N4.3 billion was paid to government coffers instead of N6.2 billion, from proceeds of shares sales, thereby short-changing the tax-paying people of Oyo State to the tune of N1.9 billion.
The statement said: “He should also let the whole world know why he was dragged to the court by the EFCC if he actually spent the people’s money transparently, the way his stooges have been mouthing about in the state.”
According to Oyelade, “it is hog wash for Ladoja to claim destruction of his legacy. His major legacy, as far as the good people of Oyo State know, was turning the state into a business concern.”
He said: “The question on the lips of our people is, ‘where is our money?’ They are asking the right question because indeed, that colossal sum of money could make a difference in their lives.”
Prince Dotun Oyelade said that government has used its resources so well that all promises made to the people have been fulfilled, two months to the next election.
“Apart from amenities and infrastructure being fairly distributed and roads constructed in remote areas hitherto neglected, car loans, housing loans and ambitious training programmes for civil servants gulped N3.5 billion naira, in an unprecedented welfare package. These facts are verifiable.”
The statement noted that those who come to equity must come with clean hand
