A senior nursing officer at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, has been abducted by armed men. Elizabeth Uruakpa, 66, was kidnapped on Thursday evening while returning from a church service near her residence, located behind the new Ilisan market.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. when Uruakpa, a member of Winners’ Chapel, was ambushed by gunmen who dragged her from her vehicle and forced her into a red Toyota car before speeding away.
A local resident, who spoke anonymously, expressed shock over the kidnapping, stating, "Such a thing has never happened in our neighbourhood. It's strange and scary."
Babcock University spokesperson Joshua Suleiman confirmed the abduction, noting that it had been reported within the university's internal communication channels but added that detailed information was still pending.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, also confirmed the incident through her X (formerly Twitter) handle.
This incident comes months after another violent attack linked to the university. In April, Professor Yinka Olomojobi, a lecturer at Babcock University, was shot dead during an attempted abduction at an event center in Iperu Remo, where two other individuals were also kidnapped.
