Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen’s forward, Victor Boniface, has expressed disappointment over his failure to be shortlisted for the Confederation of African Football Men’s Player of the Year award.

Gistmania reports that despite having a brilliant campaign with his club last season, winning the Bundesliga title with an unbeaten record, Boniface was unable to be included among the nominees for the prestigious award.

Speaking with a popular sports Journalist, Pooja on Sunday, the Nigerian international stated that he’s more focused on improving his performance and making himself a better player.

He said: “Not sad, but disappointed because I had an amazing season last season, so for me not to be there.

“Maybe the award is for African players in AFCON, I don’t know. But in general, if it’s for African Player of the Year, I think I had a great season.

“I don’t need to prove to anybody, I don’t really care about awards and stuff. But of course, as a football player, I want to improve, I want to do more for myself.”

When asked who he believes should win, Boniface named Ademola Lookman, saying, “Lookman, for sure Lookman.”

Meanwhile, Super Eagles’ captain, William Troost-Ekong was also shortlisted in the award as Super Star, Victor Osimhen failed to make the list.
