Lookman, Troost-Ekong, Oshoala Nominated For The Best FIFA Awards 2024

Three Nigerian players have been nominated in multiple categories of the 2024 FIFA Best awards.

Atalanta’s forward, Ademola Lookman, Al Kholood’s defender, William Troost-Ekong, including Super Falcons player, Asisat Oshoala were among the nominees announced by FIFA on Friday.

Lookman, who ranked 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony, was shortlisted in the Best Attacker category alongside Vinicius Junior, Lamine Yamal, Bukayo Saka, Erling Haaland, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, among others.

Also, AFCON 2024 MVP player, Troost-Ekong will compete in the Best Defender category against Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rüdiger, William Saliba, Achraf Hakimi, Manuel Akanji, Jonathan Tah.

Former Barcelona women player, Oshoala was nominated for the newly introduced Marta Award for one of the best goals in women’s football.

The 29-year-old acrobatic strike for Barcelona Femeni against Benfica in the women’s Champions League in November 2023 got the nod.

Voting is now open on FIFA’s official website across a number of award categories, with fans set to play a key role in choosing the winners.

The voting will be equally weighted between fans, the current captains and coaches of all women’s/men’s national teams, and media representatives.
