Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is set to take disciplinary action against forward Victor Boniface after the Nigerian international was caught engaging in reckless driving while using his mobile phone on a German highway.
Boniface, 23, posted a controversial photo on social media showing himself scrolling through his phone while driving his Mercedes Benz, sparking backlash from fans and the media. His actions have drawn significant criticism, as they not only violate road safety regulations but also raise concerns about player behavior off the pitch.
Alonso expressed his disapproval in a recent interview with BeIN Sports, saying, “I don’t like it, it’s obviously not good, and of course, it’s not allowed to happen. I haven’t spoken to Boni directly, but he knows it’s not acceptable.”
The Leverkusen manager emphasized the importance of responsibility, both on and off the field, and reiterated that such behavior would not be tolerated. “We have to make it clear to him that something like this is not allowed,” Alonso added.
Boniface, who has been a key player for the club, now faces disciplinary measures as part of the team’s commitment to upholding proper conduct and safety standards.
