Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared a dawn-to-dusk curfew in Owo community, following a deadly cult clash.
Recall that Gistmania had reported that four persons were killed during the crisis, which occurred between two rival cult groups on Monday morning.
It was gathered that one of the victims, identified as Fisayo Oladipupo, a former youth leader of the All Progressive Congress in Owo Local Government Area, was shot dead in the early hours of Monday by assailants suspected to be cultists.
His remains have since been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre in Owo.
Reacting to the unfortunate incident in a statement by Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Monday evening, said that Ayedatiwa directed security agencies to enforce the curfew.
He said: “Due to the ongoing violent cult clashes and security disturbances in Owo, which have led to the loss of lives, the Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has ordered a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the town until further notice.
“All residents are required to remain indoors during the curfew. Only essential services, such as hospitals, emergency services, and law enforcement, are exempted from the curfew.
“The Governor has also asked security agencies in the state to enforce the curfew, ensure the safety of lives, and properties, arrest perpetrators of the violence and restore peace to the community.”
