A Kano resident, Malam Surajo Yarima, has called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to intervene after his house, valued at about N20 million, was allegedly auctioned for N2 million by a court.

Speaking in an interview with Hikima RTV, a local radio in Kano, Yarima revealed that the house was sold to settle a debt of N300,000 he failed to repay. He claimed the sale left him, his wife, and nine children homeless.

According to Yarima, the court summoned him several times, with notices pasted on his gate, but he failed to appear because he was out of the state.

“I returned to Kano after the judgment and brought the N300,000 to settle the debt on January 6, two days after the auction. However, my creditor refused to accept the payment,” he said.

He explained that the court informed him of a three-week window to appeal the decision but lamented that the auction proceeded regardless.

“My house was auctioned for only N2 million, and now my family and I are sleeping outside,” he added.

He called on the Kano State government to investigate the matter, alleging a lack of transparency in the judicial process.

As of press time, there has been no official response from the state government or the judiciary.
