A 29-year-old man, Mathias Amunde Ugwe, has been arrested by police in Cross River State in connection with the brutal killing of his mother, Mrs. Justina Amunde, which occurred on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024. Ugwe is accused of murdering his mother at their home in Ohong community, Obudu Local Government Area.
According to sources, Mrs. Amunde, who had attended a Christmas vigil on the night of December 24, returned home late and locked all the doors before retiring for the night. Unbeknownst to her, her son and an accomplice had conspired to kill her, hiding in the store while waiting for the right moment to strike.
The victim was reportedly murdered and subjected to ritualistic practices, including having her hair shaved. Her body was discovered in a well on December 28, 2024, after authorities launched an investigation into her disappearance.
The arrest of Ugwe followed a thorough investigation by the Cross River State Police, which uncovered the horrific details of the crime. Authorities are continuing to investigate the involvement of other individuals in the grisly murder, which has shocked the local community.
The suspect, who is currently in police custody, is expected to face charges related to the murder and ritualistic acts.
