The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a 32-year-old blogger, Sylvester Victor Augustus, for allegedly cloning its official website to perpetrate a fraudulent recruitment scheme.
Augustus, a self-proclaimed content creator and graduate of the University of Uyo, was arrested on Thursday at his residence on Akpan Eno Street in Abak, Akwa Ibom State. According to DSS officials, he created a fake DSS website to promote a bogus recruitment campaign, deceiving unsuspecting individuals into paying fees for job applications that did not exist.
The DSS swiftly issued a public statement discrediting the fake recruitment campaign, labeling it a scam and urging Nigerians to disregard the false notices. The agency reiterated that official information about its activities is disseminated through legitimate channels only.
A DSS source, speaking to *Vanguard* on Friday, confirmed that Augustus had been taken into custody and would soon be charged in court.
This arrest underscores the DSS's commitment to safeguarding the public from fraudulent schemes and maintaining the integrity of its operations.
