Student Union Government (SUG) leaders at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, have rejected the 25kg rice palliatives distributed by President Bola Tinubu to SUG Presidents across the nation.

In their separate statements, the student leaders criticized the gesture, arguing that the rice palliatives do not address the pressing challenges facing Nigerian students. They emphasized that the government should focus on providing solutions that would make a lasting impact, such as reducing tuition fees, enhancing university infrastructure, and improving the overall quality of education.

The leaders described the distribution of rice as superficial and disconnected from the realities students face, urging the government to implement policies and palliatives that would alleviate the financial and academic burdens on students.

Nigerian leaders believe that if the people are pauperized, they will sing your praises when you eventually give them crumbs.
