A Nigerian man has recounted a shocking ordeal where he was swindled of over ₦500,000 by a woman who deceived him with a fake pregnancy and fabricated stories of a cesarean section (CS) delivery.
The man, who requested to remain anonymous, explained that the deception began after meeting the woman in Ibadan in April 2017. Seeking a break after completing a project, he followed his friends' suggestion to visit a club. After visiting several spots, he met a woman who caught his attention by persistently winking at him, prompting a conversation.
What followed was a whirlwind romance that led to multiple meet-ups at his home. However, after a few weeks, the woman began bringing her belongings in small polytene bags. A few weeks later, the woman claimed she was pregnant and in need of financial assistance. The man, unable to verify the claims due to being in Abuja at the time, sent her money for antenatal care and upkeep.
Over several months, the man transferred more than ₦500,000 to support her, believing she was expecting twins and would undergo a CS delivery. By December, she claimed to have given birth, and the man rushed back to Ibadan to meet his children. However, upon arrival, he discovered that there were no babies—his partner had scammed him.
A further investigation revealed that the woman had been engaging in this scam repeatedly, fooling several men into believing she was pregnant and collecting money for her fabricated pregnancies. Although the man confronted the woman and had her arrested, he later bailed her out when the police were pressing him too hard.
The man also shared that the scam had nearly ruined his relationship in 2020, when his now-wife discovered text messages exchanged during the time the woman was supposedly pregnant.
He shared his experience to warn others about the growing number of similar scams, urging people to stay vigilant. His post garnered widespread attention, with many commenting to share their thoughts and express support.
