In a disturbing incident, suspected kidnappers raided the home of a prominent businessman in Garo town, Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State, early on Sunday morning, abducting his daughter after extorting a ransom of ₦8 million.
The attack occurred around 1:20 a.m. when about 10 armed assailants stormed the residence of Alhaji Auwal in the Garo Sabuwar Unguwa area. Three of the intruders were reportedly armed with firearms, while the remaining seven wielded various other weapons. The kidnappers forcibly entered the house by breaking through a smaller door.
A source familiar with the situation stated that the intruders gathered the entire family in one location, instilling fear and chaos in the household. They demanded money, and in a desperate bid to protect his family, Alhaji Auwal handed over ₦8 million in cash to the attackers.
Despite receiving the ransom, the kidnappers abducted the family's eldest daughter, Zainab, a recent secondary school graduate, before fleeing the scene. As of now, the whereabouts of the victim remain unknown, with the kidnappers yet to make any contact with the family.
The incident has left the Garo community shaken, with residents expressing growing concern over the rising insecurity in the region. Many are calling on the authorities to take immediate action to curb the increasing wave of kidnappings in Kano State.
Confirming the attack, Kano Police Command spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa stated that an investigation has been launched to track down and apprehend the perpetrators.
