In a shocking turn of events, armed kidnappers disguised as local vigilantes have abducted a man, his wife, and their child from their home in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, located in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the police reported.

The incident occurred in the dead of night on Monday, when the assailants, armed with machetes and sticks, tricked the man into opening his door by pretending to be vigilante members. Once inside, the attackers forcefully abducted the entire family.

Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, stating that seven unidentified individuals carried out the attack. She elaborated that the kidnappers used their disguise to deceive the victim, who was then taken along with his wife and son. A neighbor who tried to intervene was injured in the process and has since been hospitalized at Kubwa General Hospital.

“The FCT Police Command has launched a full-scale search and rescue operation,” said Adeh. “We are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safe return of the kidnapped family.”

The police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any relevant information to aid the investigation.

This incident follows a rise in kidnapping incidents in Bwari, where at least 49 individuals were abducted in 2024 alone. The case of Nabeeha and her family, where kidnappers killed a daughter and raised the ransom demand, highlights the escalating danger in the region.

Recent statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reveal that between May 2023 and April 2024, 2.2 million Nigerians were affected by kidnappings, with rural areas like Bwari seeing a significant increase in such criminal activities. In total, Nigerians paid N2.2 trillion in ransom during this period.
