Lighitlubang village in the Bungha District of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State, has been thrown into mourning after suspected gunmen brutally murdered a family of five.
The victims included a man, his wife, their child, and another couple, who were reportedly slaughtered during the late-night attack. The assailants, believed to be part of a larger militia, extended their violence to other areas within the local government, escalating fear and tension among residents.
A local source, speaking to *The Guardian*, revealed that at least 10 people have been killed in a series of attacks between Monday, January 27, and Saturday, February 1. “The police were present during some of these attacks and confirmed the killings in Mangu,” the source added.
The wave of violence has left the community in distress, with residents pleading for heightened security presence to curb further bloodshed. Efforts to get an official response from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The recent killings add to the growing insecurity in Plateau State, as communities continue to face repeated attacks with little respite in sight.
