The Oyo State Fire Service has recovered the body of a 45-year-old man who fell into a well while working at First Women Estate in the Akala area of Ibadan.
The General Manager of the Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, revealing that the distress call was received around 2:11 p.m. on Friday from a resident, Mr. Yusuf.
Firefighters responded swiftly to the scene, where they discovered the man trapped at the bottom of the well. Despite rescue efforts, he was found lifeless and later handed over to his family.
Officers of the Amotekun Corps, led by Akanbi Kabiru from the Oluyole Command, were also present at the scene to assist in the operation.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the fire service battled a fire outbreak at Salim Complex in Alafia Estate, Akobo, on Saturday. The inferno, caused by an electrical surge, affected a section of a twin two-bedroom flat in the estate.
Firefighters successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building, with no casualties reported.
Akinyinka urged residents to adopt fire safety measures, including switching off and unplugging electrical appliances when not in use, to prevent similar incidents.
