A petroleum tanker accident occurred in Ibadan on Sunday, raising fresh concerns over frequent tanker crashes in the Oyo State capital.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. at Tose, Moniya, in Akinyele Local Government Area. Prompt intervention by emergency responders prevented what could have been a major fire outbreak.
Confirming the development, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, said the agency received the distress call at exactly 11:11 a.m. and immediately dispatched personnel to the scene.
“Our team took swift action by blanketing the spilled petroleum with a chemical compound to neutralize its flammability and prevent any potential fire hazard,” Akinyinka stated.
Security operatives were also deployed to maintain order, as some members of the public attempted to scoop fuel from the scene.
“The Nigerian Police are on the ground to stop illegal fuel scooping, while our personnel remain on standby to ensure safety,” he added.
Tanker accidents have become a recurring issue in Ibadan, sparking calls for stricter safety measures in fuel transportation across the state.
