A building housing blocks of classrooms at the Government Girls Science and Technical College along Gombe Road in Potiskum, Yobe State, has collapsed, leaving one dead and several female students injured.
The incident occurred during class hours when the structure suddenly caved in, trapping many students under the rubble.
Rescue efforts were swift, with the affected students rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Potiskum, where they are receiving treatment.
The Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Abba Idris Adam, and the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Science and Technical Education Board, Dr. Dauda Atiyaye, have visited both the scene of the collapse and the hospital to assess the situation.
While the exact cause of the collapse remains unclear, reports indicate that one female student lost her life when the roof gave way, striking her as she stood under the veranda.
The incident occurred about 100 kilometers from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
