
A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the life of a truck driver, Auwalu Abdulkadir, after he was struck by a loose tyre from a moving vehicle at Kara Under Bridge on Friday, February 21, 2025.
The incident involved a Kia commercial bus with registration number **LAGOS MUS 200 YE**, whose driver—yet to be identified—was reportedly driving against traffic when one of the vehicle’s tyres detached while in motion.
The stray tyre struck Abdulkadir, a Kano State native, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, **CP Omolola Oditola**, stated that the Kia bus driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
**“Police officers have taken custody of the vehicle, which has been towed to the station for further inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO). Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing driver,”** Oditola said.
She further noted that police officers were deployed to manage traffic congestion caused by the accident, while the deceased’s body was transported to **Real Divine Touch Mortuary, Ibafo**.
Officers from the **Motor Traffic Division (MOTOPOL)** also conducted a preliminary investigation, documenting evidence, taking photographs, and mapping out the accident scene.
The **Ogun State Police Command** has urged motorists to prioritize vehicle maintenance and adhere to road safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
