A Nigerian filmmaker, Elesho, has shared details of his early friendship with Afrobeats star Asake, revealing that the singer once featured in his campus cinematography projects at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in exchange for food and drinks.
In a recent interview, Elesho disclosed that during their undergraduate days, he often cast Asake in his student films and repaid him with a meal and a soft drink.
“I used to give Asake a ₦700 plate of rice and a bottle of Coca-Cola as performance fees for him to feature in movies during our undergraduate days at OAU,” he recounted.
Describing the "Lonely at the Top" hitmaker as a “day-one friend,” Elesho emphasized their deep bond, recalling fond memories from their time at the university.
“He is my very good friend. I have pictures and videos of our time together at OAU. We used to play celebrity football matches together back in the day,” he added.
He also mentioned that other now-popular entertainers, including celebrity MC Yhemolee, content creator Jimi Agbaje, comedian Woli Arole, and rapper Blaqbonez, were all part of their close-knit circle during their early struggles in the entertainment industry.
