I feel sad each time I travel by road, seeing the abundant natural untapped resources wasting yet our leaders cannot reason to utilize this gift rather than overstreaching on a single resource. what is happening to our agricultural sector?

One basic problem with Agriculture is that every Nigerian thinks he knows about Agriculture based on the native system that is being practised by their grandmothers in the villages. First and foremost, Agriculture is not for poor people. No hint of sarcastic innuendo intended. What is important Nigeria's Agricultural Plans is a total paradigm change in the concept of Agriculture in Nigeria. There is a gestation period for every crop to mature. Also, there are basic production processes that MUST be in place before any meaningful progress can be recorded. The question that repeats itself is this: WHAT ARE THE BEST STRATEGIES TO ENSURE THAT FOOD AND OTHER DERIVATIVES ARE ADEQUATELY PROVIDED FOR THE END USERS AS WELL AS CASH EARNINGS OR REWARDS FOR THE FARMERS? Politics of numbers, lack of government dedication and over dependence on imported goods will remain the Achilles heel of Agriculture in Nigeria. The futrue is bright but the players are most recalcitrant to make any meaningful impact to ensure that Agriculture regains its pride of place in Nigeria and the world at large. Anything short of these will land us in more chaos than success.
