A heavy cloud of grief descended on Otobi Akpa community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State on Sunday as no fewer than ten victims of a deadly herdsmen attack were laid to rest.
The mass burial, held at Methodist Primary School, Otobi Akpa, followed the brutal assault on the community which occurred on April 15, 2025, leaving widespread devastation and heartbreak in its wake.
Speaking at the solemn ceremony, Chairman of Otukpo LGA, Maxwell Ogiri, described the day as one of the darkest moments in the community’s history. "Today is the saddest day for us as a people," he said, addressing the mourning families and sympathizers who gathered to pay their final respects.
The community, still reeling from the impact of the attack, united in grief as coffins lined the school grounds, each representing a life cut short in the violence.
Authorities have yet to provide updates on investigations or measures to prevent further attacks, but community leaders continue to call for justice and enhanced security to protect the vulnerable population.
