Panic has gripped residents of Kum village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State following a deadly ambush by unidentified gunmen that left one man dead and another critically wounded.
The victims, identified as 48-year-old Joshua Ezekiel and 51-year-old Dung Jatau, were riding on a motorcycle along the Riyom-Kum road at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, when they were suddenly attacked by armed assailants who opened fire without warning.
According to sources cited by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the duo was rushed to the General Hospital in Riyom by concerned residents. Tragically, Ezekiel was pronounced dead on arrival, while Jatau was initially reported to be in stable condition.
However, conflicting reports have since emerged suggesting that Jatau may have later died from his injuries, although this development remains unconfirmed as of press time.
The attack has reignited fears among locals over persistent insecurity along rural roads, particularly during nighttime travel. Tension is high in the community, with residents calling for stronger security presence and swift justice.
Community leaders have appealed for calm while urging villagers to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel after dark.
In a brief statement, Plateau State Police Command confirmed that an investigation is underway. Authorities assured the public that efforts to track down and apprehend the perpetrators are ongoing.
