TRAGEDY struck in the early hours of Monday, in Ibadan, Oyo State, as unidentified gunmen, numbering six, stormed the residence of a 52-year-old medicine vendor, Mufutau Olanipekun and shot him dead.

Olanipekun, who was said to be a stalwart of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), was simply told by his assailants that he was stubborn, before they pumped bullets into his left part of the chest.

At his room and parlour apartment in Ile-Atere, Foko, Oke-Ado area of the state capital, the assailants, according to eyewitness, arrived around 3.00 a.m through the ceiling and when it became obvious that they might not get to him in his room, they further broke the ceiling and went into the bedroom to meet him before they could kill him.

Narrating the killing, the head of the family house, Ayo Olatunji, who described the deceased as his cousin, said he had been buried beside his residence.

The wife of the deceased, Bunmi described the death of her husband of 10 years as shocking, considering the fact that he was a gentleman who, she said, hated controversy.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olatunji Ajimuda, confrmed the incident, saying that it was robbers who stored the area that killed the deceased.

When told that the people only killed him and did not take anything from the house, Ajimuda said the deceased might have identified the suspected robbers.
