Abdulrasheed made this disclosure during an interactive session with newsmen in Calabar as part of efforts to reposition the zone in line with the rebranding agenda of the NCS. The Customs boss said NCS officials were able to detect the fraud and raise a demand notice for the money, with the collaboration of the present management of the Cross River and Akwa-Ibom State area commands.
Abdulrasheed said the present management of the command, had set a six-point agenda of maximising the potentials of the service through capacity building, which he said led to the creation of a new department of human resource development. He noted that, in terms of capacity building, the NCS had embarked on massive training and re-training of officers and men, with a view to enabling them perform in line with international best practices. The zonal comptroller further stated that the present management had placed the welfare of officers on the front burner.
According to him, the salaries of officers and men of the command have been improved upon, hence the zeal and vigour of his officers. He said a merit award had been instituted to reward and honour officers who distinguish themselves by contributing towards improving the revenue profile of the area command. He hinted that the best officer of the month was Superintendent Kadejo Busayo.
In addition, the command recently took delivery of patrol vehicles, to aid patrol activities, especially at the border areas, thus leading to seizures and more security at the border areas.
