Mum stabbed girl, threw son out of window

POLICE in northwest Atlanta today fatally shot a woman when she refused to stop stabbing a young child, who also died.
Police said they were called to an Abner Place home after receiving a report that an eight-year-old boy had been assaulted and thrown out of a window by his mother.
When the officers arrived they witnessed the woman sitting in a chair and stabbing another child, aged between two and five, inside the home, a spokesman said.
The child was the 40-year-old woman's daughter, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A neighbour said the girl was four years old.
Two officers drew their weapons and ordered the woman to stop and drop her knife. When she did not they shot her, killing her. The young child - who was not specified as the woman's daughter by police -- was also dead at the scene.
The eight-year-old boy was in a stable condition with what appear to be minor injuries, police said.
The identities of the woman and children were not revealed. Neighbours told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution they had moved to the area from Baltimore about 18 months ago and lived with the woman's adult brother.
