everyone has a different view of a certain Individual. To some he's seen as a hero and to others he's viewed otherwise. That being said, it is improper to speak ill of the dead. It just shows a lack of respect. Also i believe that we are all adults and we can have a reasonable argument without calling each other names or degrading each other.

Ezendigbo Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu needs no state burial from a failed state like Nigeria. To be frank with you all,the igbos do not need to beg for any state burial for our hero. But there is one thing am very happy about. The leadership of the federal republic of Nigeria can never be smelt by any northerner again, now and forever more, amen Grin

Majority of Nigerians are stupid!!! Ignorance, tribalism, nepotism and uber stupidity is the order of the day.
The amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorate in 1914 was a great mistake as they brought indigenous/independent tribes in to one failed state called Nigeria. As a result of this action, the tussle for voice, power and control loomed on. The ibos failed to recognize the Islamic power of the Emir and their quest to islamize every non-muslim,hence the coup.
But the backlash that resulted lead to the near extinction of the Ibo race as they were killed in mass. So Ojukwu, then an Ibo governor had to act to prevent further slaughter of the ibo people. The eastern leaders agreed to secede after they voted and agreed to it as the country was in a state of chaos. Even Awo said that they would also secede if the ibos carried on with their plan. the Northerners realizing that they would be left with nothing(even the oil boom revenues) if every ethnic group seceded decided to label  the ibo leaders as rebels and deployed troops to fight them( annexing of the ibo frontier and ibo lands). hence starting the civil war. Ojukwu did not start the civil war and never did. He only tried to save his people from the impending genocide that was being plotted by the jihadist and therefore he is a Hero to the Ibo people. I hear some say that he was granted pardon by the FMG. But what they also fail to mention was that the Junta was predominantly Hausas who were in control and who put Yakubu Gowon as their puppet and they have been in control since then on-wards. If all the players at his time were labeled Heros, then i think he deserved the same Honor. If not for his action, the Ibo race would have been history as they were slaughtered on a daily basis like cows. In fact before the war started,30000 Ibos had already been slaughtered. His true intent was for a unified  ibo state and not a scattered country plagued with ethnic violence and corruption. The Northerners would not admit that they were the pilots of Nigerians ethnic problems when they wanted to islamize every Nigerian and according to their Jihadist doctrine, they would not be at peace until everyone is a follower of their so called Allah. They do not respect other peoples religion except theirs. The Yoruba's are only supporting because of the way the war played out,so there is this mentality to support the winner and even so, some Yorubas are Muslims.Even the notion that Ibos are bad and corrupt stemmed out from that war. Mind you the events leading to the surrender of the Ibo state of Biafra was not because they were outgunned but it was because they were betrayed by you know who, OBJ and Adekunle!!! Read his book and you would understand what part he played in the war. Even My grand father, then a serving Soldier for the FMG was gunned down in Ibadan barracks on the orders of Theophilus Danjuma a year after the war started for being Ibo and refusing to be deployed to fight his own people(making my father an orphan at such a young age) yet he was made a Minister of defense by you know who. Nobody probed them for their alleged parts in war crimes and they are still alive today. Most of the people arguing on here don't even know 5% of the truth and don't know about the complicity of the leaders they are defending.
Don't get me wrong though. I'm one of the people who think Nigeria can be one but at what Cost? When all those old Puppet masters from the cold era who are still controlling the Nigerian regime die off!!!
When all the jihadist change their doctrine to that of peace and unity!!!
When we would be content with what we have!!!
When we would stop bashing and blaming each other for our woes!!!
......and so on and so forth!!!
I really don't care if the Nigerian Government Honors him but he will forever remain a hero in the Hearts of Ibos for the effort he contributed to save lives even though more lives were lost defending our Honor and Integrity. It was better that way than letting the Hausas slaughter us for their insane and mundane reasons. We were being ruled by religious Bigots(am talking about the saradauna of sokoto and the prime minister) pre war era and if not for the Ibos,am pretty sure that Nigeria would be governed by Islamic Laws and prejudice as they did in the barracks prompting the uprising!!!

At this time and age,the past is past tense and we are supposed to move on from there and forge a greater bond but how can that happen when we are still cut up in this mess of who is wrong and who is right?
How can we move on if the tales of the past still influences the future of our tomorrow?
I look at the inequitable wealth distribution back at home and i say what a pity!!!
We have the resources to make sure that no Nigerian will ever see or hear of suffering, yet here we are babbling over who is right and who is wrong!!! Most people here haven't even read a piece of Nigerian History yet they have talking rights to air their Sentiments and delusional versions of the war. I think starting an OJ agenda on NP is utterly foolish and should be left for the Senate to decide.
Using this medium/topic to express our profound hatred for each other is totally insane and i think if you want to bring such sentiments to light, then use the proper legal channels to express your various views. Like requesting a national referendum according to geographical distribution and if all say "I" then it is!!!

What a myopic or blinkered view of history! You started by insulting majority of Nigerians yet had the effrontery to condenm other commentators on this topic for doing the same. By my bulldog's balls, aren't you the dog that ate the bone strapped to it's neck? You speak from both sides of your mouth but had the pertness of a pot calling kettle black! The fact of the matter is that peace is preferable to war anytime and there is no point giving a salacious Ibo version of the war. The Ibos were out-numbered, out-gunned and really, it was a fight between David and Goliath. But then what do you expect when the whole country was up in arms against a tiny enclave! The Biafrans suffered immeasurably. We should pray not to see the like of it again.

We were outnumbered but not outgunned. We had the spirit of the Trojan soldiers, so we were not outgunned and that is why the war raved for 3 years!!! Yes i said what i said about majority of Nigerians because that is the truth. Its not an insult!!! If my view is myopic, tell majority of Nigerians your own version. The facts are in History and history don't lie!!! If you read the History books well you would understand. But because i'm pretty sure the tale you believe is the biased version passed to you by your ancestors/supporters of the war. The first battalion drafted to the seceded region was from where? Dumb Ass. I guess you are an educated illiterate ranting with no facts to back them up.
Read your books well, then you can stand up right and face me in a verbal/constructive argument.
If it was because we were outnumbered and outgunned, then why did the war take 3yrs? we fought with dane guns but it went on for that long. And how is my Ibo version of the war arousing segxwal desire( salacious)?
Dumb, illiterate but educated fool. The worst thing that get people like you on my nerves is utter stupidity. You could be bashful and whatever, but i hate your stupidity. Go get some education, then we can communicate on par!!!

I thought you were an educationist trying to lecture minors on the truth? Why is your anger running away with you? 'Salacious' means scandalous, sensational and spicy, your pick if you care! When semi-literate people with over-sized ego like you engage in gibberish they stand to be corrected. The war could have ended after the fall of Enugu but world opinion changed with the pictures of terribly malnurished Ibo children, mothers and old people who were dying by their thousands daily. Nigeria was persuaded to open a corridor for Internation Aid to get through. France used this for covert arms shipment to the Biafran rag-tag army. This was why the war dragged on for three years. Have you had enough, egocentric idiot?

I think we all know who the uneducated literate is!!! Stupidity irks me a lot and yours is what irks me!!!
The Red Cross had been supplying aid to the ravaged biafra from the onset of the war until the FMG decided to cut it off mid- 1969( 2 years after the war started) and later allowed it 2 weeks later after international community, onlookers and observers cried foul (as to their intentions to commit genocide).Since Biafra was a landlocked state,it made sense to them that if they cut off aide which they relied on, and ban all Red cross personnel, they would exterminate us. But with all that, they still survived feeding on all sorts of things like cockroaches and lizards. The surrender of Biafra was a breach of trust by trusted aides and friends of OJ while he was out to sign an arms procurement pact. The weapons would have change the state of the war but the FMG was able to procure more weapons from Great Britain and Russia. Yet inspite of their well equipped Military, they could not exterminate the less equipped and outnumbered biafrans. The surrender of Biafra came when OJ was out of the country to sign a pact for the procurement of weapons for the ill-equipped biafran soldiers. But i keep hearing people like you saying stories that he ran away,he was an undaunted soldier who would never back down even in death. OBJ and Adekunle who were trusted friends of OJ were the ones who played a part in the demise of the republic. It is written in his own account of the war. Go read your books.

@ Bufoon drwiz,

Mr big wig, I have read your account of Nigerian Civil War. Pardon me if I err. Firstly, Microsoft Window's Thesaurus defined 'salacious' as  'scandalous, spicy, sensational' etc. Since we are using the computer we should stick to this definition which is readily available to any pal that wants to research this word. You appear a bit dogmatic. Secondly, is your version of history all yours or you read from Nigerian authors? If Nigerian, are they nationalists or tribal bigots like you whose objectivity has been impaired? Blaming OBJ and Adekunle would not redeem your flawed historical account. I suggest you go and treat your pathetic self to a keg of palm wine to assuage your frustration with life, ewu.
