An officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Babatunde Kilani, was on Saturday morning attacked and seriously beaten up by a yet to be identified policeman, attached to Sango Police Station.

The incident happened at the popular Oju Ore junction, along the ever busy Idiroko Road in Ota, Ogun State, where the customs officer just disembarked from a car.

The customs officer, who was wearing the trousers of his uniform had reportedly incurred the wrath of the errant policeman for daring to call himself an officer.

The Sunday Tribune gathered that the customs officer was pleading with a team of six policemen not to impound a commercial saloon car, when the incident happened.

An eye witness, who pleaded anonymity, while speaking with the Sunday Tribune, stated that the customs officer had disembarked from the commercial cab and was waiting to have his balance when the police team arrived.

The driver of the cab, had by then gone around to look for change and returned to see the policemen trying to move away the vehicle from the side of the road.

The driver was reportedly arguing with the policemen, when the customs officer instructed him to hand over the key to the vehicle to the policemen, which the driver did.

The customs officer in his efforts to see if the spirit of espirit de corps would solve the problem, approached the leader of the police team and introduced himself as an officer.

The police team leader, an inspector was yet to react, when one of the junior police officers in the team pounced on the customs officer and beat him to the extent that blood was gushing out of his nose.
