President Goodluck Jonathan Friday served a warning to all his Ministers and Heads of Parastatals fingered in the current National Assembly bribery scandal to begin gathering their belongings as his Government will no longer tolerate rogues and
fraudsters.
An obviously angered President Jonathan made the declaration at the Brown Room of the State House in Abuja during the official assent of the N4.7billion 2012 Appropriation Bill into law.
The President noted that his decision is borne out of the need to sanitise the system as the action and inaction of these rogues had consistently undermined the planning of Government policies and programmes.
"One of the greatest problem I have noticed from the day I assumed Office as Vice President in 2007 till date is that the Federal Government budget has not been based on proper planning. In most cases, when the budget comes out from the planning and Finance Ministry, along the line, people distort the budget, especially some heads of MDAs go to lobby the National Assembly to put figures that are not based on planning and that is why it has being difficult to achieve targets", he declared.
Continuing, "I will continue to plead with the National Assembly that if there are heads of parastatals that come to you to lobby, drive them away. This year, we clearly frowned at it and am going to use some heads of Parastatals as examples, because I got security reports that some came to lobby that their budget be increased.
"I will sack them because we cannot run a Country without planning, we cannot run a budget that is not based on planning. These figures don't just come from the blues, people come out and computed and see how to fit into fiscal responsibility and other issues so, we will not allow a situation where one person, because of personal interest, will distort the budget of a Nation", he said.
