Controversial social media personality and activist, VeryDarkMan, has spoken out following his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), pointing fingers at Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) for allegedly playing a role in his detention.
In a viral video released shortly after securing bail, VeryDarkMan recounted the tense sequence of events that led to his arrest, accusing the bank of holding him hostage during what began as a routine visit to investigate an alleged loan on his mother’s account.
According to him, the incident unfolded when he visited GTBank to clarify why a N200,000 loan had been linked to his mother’s account without her knowledge. But as he attempted to leave the bank, he said a security officer inexplicably stopped him, despite being unable to provide a reason for the action.
Moments later, as he tried to exit the premises in his car, VeryDarkMan claimed that multiple security operatives blocked his vehicle, fired shots into the air, blindfolded him, and dragged him into another vehicle before whisking him away.
“The police didn’t even know why I was being stopped,” he said in the video. “GTBank, you owe me an explanation. You held me against my will for five minutes. Why?”
He went on to express appreciation to celebrities, activists, and ordinary Nigerians who joined protests and online campaigns demanding his release, noting that their support played a crucial role in his freedom.
The social commentator has now vowed to take legal action against GTBank for what he described as unlawful detention, questioning the bank’s involvement in the events that led to his arrest.
Neither GTBank nor the EFCC has officially responded to his allegations as of press time. However, the incident continues to stir heated debate across social media platforms, with many calling for a full investigation into the role played by both the bank and the anti-graft agency.
VeryDarkMan remains a polarizing figure online, known for his outspoken views and activism, which have frequently drawn the attention of authorities.
