At least 70 hoodlums today invaded the BTO Hall along Ilesha Road in Akure, Ondo State, southwest Nigeria, and disrupted the Fifth Adefarati Memorial Lecture organised by the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

The thugs vandalised government vehicles and those belonging to individuals around the venue of the lecture.

They also assaulted important personalities such as former chairman of Labour Party in Ondo State, Mr. Olaiya Oni.He was pulled out of his car and beaten. His car was damaged.

The hoodlums also attacked Chief Wunmi Adegbonmire and smashed his car.

ACN governorship aspirant in the state election slated for October, Awodeyin Akinseyinwa, was also attacked.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the thugs arrived the venue of the lecture about 30 minutes ahead of members of the planning committee and started to attack eminent personalities around.

ACN National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande barely escaped from the venue of the lecture as he had already arrived before the invasion by the hoodlums.

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, who was guest speaker was yet to arrive before the fracas erupted.

The police at the venue of the lecture were helpless while the thugs went on the rampage. But efforts were being made at press time to bring the situation under control and for the lecture to hold.

As part of the fifth remembrance, a memorial thanksgiving service will hold tomorrow at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Akungba Akoko, to be followed by a reception at the Estate of Peace in Akungba Akoko.

The late Chief Adebayo Adefarati was the governor of the Ondo State from 1999 to 2003. He died in 2007 shortly before that year’s general elections.

He was the Alliance for Democracy, AD, presidential candidate.
