Tragedy struck in Ikere-Ekiti when a truck crushed a teenager writing the ongoing West African School Certificate Examinations.

Our correspondent gathered that Blessing Fagbemi, who just finished writing one of his papers, left Ado-Ekiti for Ikere on a motorcycle to attend the All Nigerian Conference of Evangelical Drama Ministers.

The boy, said to be around 16 years, was reported to have come to Ado-Ekiti from Osun State, where he was writing the exam.

Fagbemi was said to have left the venue of the conference for Ikere town to visit some of his friends.

But the teenager, who was on a motorcycle with one of his friends, was crushed by a trailer in Ikere town.

His friend, who was in the back seat, was said to have jumped off the bike when he realised that it was going underneath the truck.

Residents of the town said that policemen drafted to the scene of the accident deposited the corpse at the mortuary of the state General Hospital, Ikere, before the arrival of his father.

The Divisional Police Officer, Ikere, Mr. Olusegun Olatunji, told journalists that the driver of the truck had been charged for manslaughter.

He added that the case had been adjourned till June 1, 2012 and the remains of the boy had been buried by the family.
