A prominent member of the Northern Elders Forum, Professor Ango Abdullahi, says Senate President David Mark has betrayed the trust bestowed on him as one of the leaders from the North because of his “inflammatory statements” that blamed northern leaders for not doing anything to stop Boko Haram insurgency in the region. Reacting to Mark’s remarks in Bauchi yesterday, Professor Abdullahi said Mark is number three citizen in the country; and number two citizen in the North after Vice-President Muhammad Namadi Sambo, saying the statement credited to him showed that he removed himself from the category of northern leaders “even though we considered him one of our own”. “If he has excluded himself from being a leader or elder, then I think he is quite right to say that others who are regarded as elders or leaders should be queried for some of the things that are going on”, he said. The former vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, also said he could not remember any meeting Senator David Mark convened in his responsibility as a Senate leader, northern leader/ elder inviting other colleagues considered to be peers to discuss problems challenging the country or the North.
