BEYOND "KHAKIISM"
General, President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday commissioned
a bullet-proof vest production factory at the Defence Industry
Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Kaduna with a visit, amid tight
security to Jaji. This was his first visit to the troubled region
after the dastardly act of early June where 3 churches were
horrendously attacked and scores killed. What an august visit!
While am totally in support of his "khaki" attire as opposed to
in some quarters, after all the likes of Shagari, Obasanjo (not
too sure of late Yar'Adua) wore same in their reins as Nigeria's
Presidents, I think the "khaki" symbolizes something different!
If you want to dress like "Obama", you act like "Obama", tither,
if you want to dress like a "military" man, you act like one.
Acting like one military man that damns no consequence of his
action has its concomitants. Our asset-undeclaring-no-damn-giving
president should not look at whose ox is gored before tackling the
hydra-headed Boko Haram menace head-long. After all, he's agreed
to the fact that the whole system-Military, Police, Judiciary, Legislature
is Boko Haram infiltrated.
May I ask how many quantities of those vests will be produced and
given FREELY to the ordinary man on the streets, who appears eternally
vulnerable to the attacks of these boiz? Better still, when do we expect
Nigeria to commission a BOMB-PROOF factory that will sort of cocoon
us against the next attack-at-no-one-knows-when-and-where? Just curious
