The Command’s Area Comptroller, Hassan Mundu, in Calabar on Saturday, said the products were loaded into tankers with number plate XR611ABC, XZ866 EPE and XA 72 KDG.
He said the suspects would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
Mundu noted that from January to June 2012, his command had made over eight seizures of contraband goods.
“The Command, in its bid to suppress and protect the country’s economy from unpatriotic Nigerians and economic saboteurs, have made over eight seizures of various prohibited goods in the area with a total duty paid value of about N20.3m from January-June 2012,” he said.
He warned that officers and men of the service would not condone any illegal activity.
The Comptroller said as a result of the special revenue drive recently embarked on to improve the revenue profile of the Area command, the command had blocked all possible areas of revenue leakages resulting from improper Customs clearance processes for goods in the Free Trade zones in Calabar and Tinapa.
He added that this had led to a tremendous increase in the revenue profile of the command.
According to Mundu, before now, the average monthly revenue by Customs from the Free Trade Zone was between N2.8m to N2.9m, but in the month of May and June this 2012, the revenue from these areas rose to N7.95m.
Mundu said with the reformation that had been carried out by the authorities, the officers were encouraged to put in their best in a bid to reposition the economy of the country.
