Senate President David Mark has decried the wanton killings in Plateau State.
He said with the killings of a member of the National Assembly and an state lawmaker, the crisis in the state had reached its crescendo.
Senator Gyang Dantong, representing Plateau North and Mr. Gyang Fulani, representing Barkin Ladi constituency, were killed on Sunday by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen at the burial of victims of Saturday’s attack at Matse in Riyom Local Government Area of the state.
The senate president, who paid a condolence visit to Governor Jonah Jang in Jos, expressed his belief that the ceaseless and killings would come to an end.
Mark, who expressed regret at the death of the two lawmakers, described Dantong as an easy going gentleman
Mark said, “The deaths of Dantong and Fulani are unfortunate and regrettable and we only hope that with their deaths, the crisis in the state has reached its peak and must end. I have always said we can resolve these crises through dialogue and I hope that those concerned will now embrace dialogue so that we can achieve lasting peace.”
He said the Senate was working assiduously with the federal and state governments, security agencies and all stakeholders to ensure that the crises in all parts of the country come to an end.
Jang, who received the Senate President and his entourage, said he had always alerted the Federal Government about the presence of terrorists in the state and expressed regret that his cries had not always been heeded.
They also visited families of Dantong and Fulani also in Rayfield.
At the Dantong’s, Mark consoled the widow, Hanatu.
He said, “We have come here as colleagues of your husband to condole you on this unfortunate incident. We know it is painful, but there is nothing any mortal can do if it is the will of God.”
Mark and his entourage were received by the deceased younger brother, Rwang.
Mark also condoled with the septuagenarian mother of the deceased, Chundung Dantong.
In the senate president entourage were Senators Andy Ubah, Chris Ngige from Anambra State, Senator Emmanuel Bacha from Taraba State, Victor Lar, members of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu from Delta State and Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Serah Ochekpe.
