One of my friends told me about this post. We were discussing negative stereotypes that Blacks have about each other. We had to look up the definition of "Akata" and found that interesting as well because African men practically kill themselves to get with Black American women. I have had numerous Nigerian men in particular tell me that they are more attracted to American women because they are "more beautiful". I have never really had African friends because my parents raised me to avoid them. We were taught that African men, especially Nigerians were con artists, greedy,financially unstable, controlling, smoothe-talking,deceptive and very religious but lacking any actual morals. Unfortunately, over the years I have seen Nigerian men engage in behavior that supports my parents' warnings. A Nigerian man once told me that he had sex with blood relatives (an aunt and a cousin) because he was "horny" and they "offered". On numerous occasions he even referred to his 13-year-old sister as "cute and sexy". I have been told that consensual, segxwal relationships amongst blood relatives is part of the cultural norm in Nigeria but this is not acceptable behavior here in America. I understand if a woman slapping a cheating boyfriend is shocking to your culture just like incest is shocking to mine. Also there is a very easy way to avoid "Akata" women...go to Nigeria, I'm sure you won't find many of us there.
