The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued a two-year-old girl trafficked from Abuja to Aba, Abia State, in what officials described as a disturbing case of child trafficking.
The toddler, now renamed Chiamaka Favor to protect her identity, was recovered on Wednesday, May 8, 2025, by NAPTIP’s Abia State Command. Her rescue follows a coordinated operation involving the Department of State Services (DSS), which earlier arrested the suspect and handed them over to NAPTIP for further investigation.
According to a statement released by NAPTIP on Friday, May 9, preliminary findings suggest the child was trafficked in February and allegedly sold for ₦100,000 through a network linked to three separate trafficking syndicates operating in Abuja.
“The suspect is in custody, and investigations are currently underway to dismantle the trafficking rings involved,” the statement read.
NAPTIP is now appealing to the public for urgent assistance in identifying and locating the child’s biological parents or relatives.
“This child deserves to be reunited with her real family. Anyone with useful information should contact NAPTIP immediately,” the agency urged.
The case has reignited concerns over the growing menace of child trafficking across Nigeria and the urgent need for stronger community surveillance, public awareness, and tougher penalties for traffickers.
