Prominent political economist and public affairs analyst, Professor Pat Utomi, has formally announced his complete withdrawal from Nigeria’s political arena, stating that he will neither contest for any public office nor accept any form of government appointment or contract.
Utomi made the declaration during an interview on Politics Today, a flagship political programme on Channels Television, where he addressed speculation about his political ambitions and affiliations.
"Let me be unequivocal," Utomi said. "I will not run for public office, I will not accept any appointment or contract from any government in Nigeria."
The former presidential aspirant emphasized that his sole commitment moving forward is to champion the cause of Nigeria’s younger generation.
“My only concern now is the future of our children and grandchildren. I have lived my life without taking anything from the public purse or chasing government money,” he explained.
Utomi dismissed insinuations that he is seeking political favor or positioning himself for appointments behind the scenes. “This is to silence any talk that I’m lobbying for contracts or chasing relevance. That is not who I am,” he added.
The declaration marks a definitive end to Utomi’s political journey, one that has spanned decades of policy advocacy, party politics, and national development conversations.
