Tragedy has struck the Sunyani Nursing and Midwifery Training College following the mysterious death of a final-year student, 28-year-old Gifty Kyere, at her boyfriend’s residence in Jinijini, Bono Region.
According to reports, Gifty had left her family home on the eve of the incident, ostensibly to retrieve her school fees and other supplies. However, she was later found dead under unclear circumstances in the home of her 23-year-old boyfriend, Edmond Ayomah.
Her father, Pastor Kyere Jonathan of the Agape Evangelical Church, said the family was devastated by the news, especially after learning that Gifty did not return directly as planned but instead went to her boyfriend’s home. “We are still in shock. This is not the path she said she was taking,” the grieving father told local media.
Ayomah, who has since gone into hiding, reportedly contacted acquaintances expressing a willingness to surrender to authorities. He initially told mutual contacts that Gifty died from an asthma attack and claimed he couldn’t afford hospital treatment at the time.
However, police say they are treating the case with heightened suspicion. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the young woman may have been coerced into terminating a pregnancy, a complication of which could have contributed to her death.
Law enforcement officials have launched a manhunt for Ayomah and are pursuing all leads to determine the true cause of Gifty’s death. “We are actively investigating and urge the suspect to come forward to aid the process,” a police spokesperson said.
The death has sparked outrage and concern across the Jinijini community, where residents are demanding justice and answers.
