Benue State has been hit by fuel scarcity even as many filling stations are protesting the non availability of the product.
It was gathered that despite the fact that the National Union of Petroleum, Energy and Gas Workers(NUPENG) in the state had joined its national body to suspend the strike earlier embarked upon by the union, many petrol stations in the state were still locked.
Our correspondent who visited some of the filling stations in Makurdi, Gboko and Otukpo observed that some of the petrol stations including Total, Austoma and AP were not open to motorists.
LEADERSHIP however observed that the NNPC Mega station Makurdi, Oando, Dochiss Nigeria Limited, Kyabiz Oil and Rain Oil were opened for business but there were long queues.
It was discovered that the closure of some of the stations adversely affected motorists as many were forced to buy from the black market that were selling the product above the N97 per litre approved by the federal government.
Mr. John Aden, a motorist who was met in a petrol station where he was struggling to buy the product lamented the development. He said, “As you can see, I have spent more than two hours in this Dochiss Filling station. You can see by yourself that this is a long queue. I earlier thought of buying from black marketers but I later changed my mind because they are selling it at the higher prices of between N150 and N200. I think petroleum monitoring agency should quickly intervene in this matter.”
