A night security guard employed by a bank in Lagos to protect the bank has allegedly burgled the same bank he was employed to guard.

The guard, Seyi Jaiyeola, has been arrested by the police in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, for allegedly burgling an old generation bank in the night and stealing N12.5 million.

He was charged before Ebute Meta Magistrate's court, Lagos with stealing under the Criminal Code.

The 33-year old Jaiyeola was employed as a security guard at the bank branch located on Alakija street, Jibowu, Yaba Lagos.

He allegedly stole the bank's spare keys and entered the bank in the night several times and stole the money without any trace.

It was learnt that Jaiyeola was allegedly stealing the money little by little for several months and the bank was confused about how their money got missing.

However, luck ran out on him when the management of the bank found a bunch of the bank's spare keys on him and he was unable to explain how he got the keys.

He was immediately arrested and handed over to the police at SCID, Panti, Yaba where he reportedly made a confessional statement that he was responsible for the missing money.

He was charged to court for the alleged offence. When he was arraigned in court, he pleaded not guilty.

The court granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

He was, however, remanded in prison custody pending when he will fulfil his bail condition.
