The deceased, Cajetan Nweke, a graduate of Enugu state University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Enugu, with his maternal brother Maite Onyibo were abducted at night while they were stepping out from a bar at Nkwo Olo Market settlement.
Crime Alert gathered that few days after the two brothers were whisked away by unknown gunmen, the lifeless body of Cajetan was found around 7up bottling company at 9th mile near Enugu where the abductors directed the family having paid N1million ransom somewhere in Anambra state instead of the N2 million earlier demanded by their abductors for the release of the young men.
Investigations revealed that the gunmen had allegedly told Cajetan's senior brother on phone while negotiating that they were bought to kill him should the family fail to raise the ransom demanded fast. A family source disclosed that it took up to 30 minutes to untie the rope round Cajetan's neck and body which was an indication that he was strangled to death while his brother was beaten to pulp almost half dead and receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital.
The family of the
deceased was astonished when they arrived at the designated spot only to see the lifeless body of Cajetan while his maternal brother was writhing in pain, almost half dead because of the beating meted on him by the abductors.
High profile killing
The deceased had his early education at his country home, Community Primary School Ogulogu, Olo,Ccommunity Secondary School, Olo and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu. He was married with children.
When Crime Alert visited Nkwo Olo market settlement, a resident who pleaded anonymity expressed shock at the gruesome high profile killing of Cajetan by his abductors. "I am at a loss to guess the reason for the killing of Cajetan. The ransom they demanded was made available promptly yet they strangled him to death.
What has he done to deserve death. I pray that the perpetrators of this heinous crime would soon be fished out. Since after the tragic incident, the Nkwo market settlement has virtually been deserted as most of the residents now leave in apprehension.
