The Kaduna State Government said an unattended travelling bag left near the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office along Ahmadu Bello way yesterday contained no explosives.

People panicked and deserted the area claiming that the bag contained explosives and may be detonated.

After an hour, army personnel arrived the scene and formed a perimeter around the bag while others cordoned-off roads. But while the soldiers were making effort to “defuse” whatever explosives that may be contained in the bag, a man suddenly appeared from the crowd saying the bag belonged to him.

The man who claimed to be a soldier presented an identity card before they escorted him to the spot where the bag was. He was later taken away in military vehicle and taken to undisclosed location for questioning.

It was learnt that he was said to have boarded a commercial bus and the bag was mistakenly dropped along with those of other passengers who disembarked earlier.

When the passengers fetched their belongings they left the bag there and after about thirty minutes people around the scene became anxious and ran away.

The Director General Media and Publicity of the state Ahmed Maiyaki confirmed that the bag contained no explosives.

The driver of the bus, Abdullahi Mohammed said “I noticed when my conductor removed the soldier’s bag but I lacked idea on whether it was returned. When we got to Sabon Gari the man raised alarm that his bag was stolen and that he was in a hurry to catch a bus to Enugu. I asked Zakariya, my conductor to drive the bus to the last bus stop and asked the soldier to join me to where I suspected the bag to be. On getting here I saw people gathered around the bag.”
