A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yaba, Lagos State, ruled yesterday that a woman, Nkese Iroakazi, had a case to answer for murdering her 9-year old housemaid.
Iroakazi, was said to have allegedly set ablaze her maid, Eno Bassey in July.
The ruling was given by the Chief Magistrate, Yewande Aje-Afunwa, at the resumed hearing of the case following a report by the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
According to reports, she said that the DPP’s report showed that a prima facie case had been established against the accused.
The Prosecutor, Felix Ifijen, who arraigned the accused on August 29, had told the court that Ms. Iroakasi set ablaze the housekeeper, Bassey, on July 27 at her residence, No. 7 Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere, Lagos.
According to him, Bassey, suffered severe burns and died a week later at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
He noted that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The case was in August adjourned pending the DPP’s report, while the accused was remanded in prison.
