The Flamingoes of Nigeria have failed to qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time, after they were crushed 3-0 by Spain in the quarter-final of the tournament.

Guijarron gave the Europeans the lead from the penalty spot just before the 15th minute, after Ugochi Emenayo fouled Andrea Falcon in the area. Nahikari Garcia and Laura Dominguez went close again for Spain, with the Nigerian goalkeeper tipping the latter’s powerful shot away.

However, they eventually doubled their lead through Nahikari Garcia, who latched on to Dominguez’s through ball and slotted the ball past Onyinyechukwu Okeke. With 20 minutes left, it was three. Okeke failed to handle a fierce effort from Sandra Hernandez and Guijarron stabbed in the rebound.

The result ended Nigeria’s seven-game unbeaten run at the tournament, which dates back to 2012. Spain will go on to play Italy in the last four of the competition.
