Earlier today, Nigeria’s Second Republic President, Alhaji Shehu Usman Shagari, was reported dead by several blogs and news outlet in Nigeria. Amid the speculations and rumors, Nigerian Tribune released an authoritative report to thwart the false news stating that “Shehu Shagari is not dead.”
The 90-year-old Ex-President who celebrated his birthday on February 25, in the presence of several former heads of states in Sokoto, (click here if you missed it), was reportedly in his farm in his village, Shagari, Sokoto state, on Sunday when the rumors started circulating on the Internet.
Family sources have since confirmed to some media outlets that Shagari is “hale and hearty” and the rumors should be ignored.

“Please ignore the rumour. I can tell you specifically that he was in his farm this afternoon. And he was back home in the evening,” the source said. “As a Muslim, Shagari would have been buried before sunset on Sunday if indeed he died in the afternoon as reported. And there is no way this will not be officially announced.”
