Student Leader Of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Slams VC With Multi-Million Naira Corruption Allegations

A letter written by the president of the Students Union Government (SUG), Noble Eyisi, is causing ripples at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, (UNIZIK), Awka.

In the letter, addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Joseph Ahaneku, Eyisi alleged corruption and anomalies in the management of the institution's funds.
According to Reporters,  the student leader accused Ahaneku of various allegation bordering on corruption and lack of transparency.
"As this is a federal institution and in view of the trending change and zero corruption in Nigeria through our president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, we demand a transparent system and a complete students- oriented government," his letter read in part.
One of the main points raised was a N45 million sum which he said the school got after asking first year students numbering about 6000 to pay N7500 as 'Biometric Capturing fee'.
He demanded to know how the money was spend, as well as the annual students union dues.
Eyisi also asked the Vice Chancellor to explain the rationale behind the hike of post-UME fee from N1000 to N2000, management's refusal to accept the food price of N150 per plate initiated by the SUG and the failure to pay allowances to SUG officials as obtainable in other tertiary institutions.
He also lamented that the Vice Chancellor executed policies affecting students without consulting them.
Student  gathered that security officials in the school tried to prevent the letter from circulating.
