An Ondo Monarch Kidnapped by SUspected Militants From his Palace

In what looked like a script from Hollywood movie, some suspected kidnappers stormed the palace of a foremost monarch in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, the Laragunsin of Iyasan, Oba Abiodun Oyewumi and spirited him away.

Sources in the town said the unspecified number of kidnappers stormed the Iyasan around 10:30 pm on Monday and headed straight to the palace where they operated for about 30 minutes. The source said the suspected kidnappers invaded the town through Owena River that serves as boundary between Ondo and Edo States. The river also links Irele Local Government with the riverine community of Eseodo Local Government.
It was learnt there are three links through which Iyansan could be accessed and the kidnappers suspected to be Niger Delta militants invaded the town through the river.
Some suspected kidnappers operating in the area had abducted the mother of the Commissioner for Adult Education, Mr Remi Olatubora. They had also kidnapped the mother of former Legal Adviser of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olusola Oke and that of a billionaire businessman, Mr Jimoh Ibrahim. The Chairman of Irele Local Government, Hon Sanmi Elumaro, who confirmed the abduction, said the kidnappers, numbering about 10, came into the town through the waterways. According to him, the kidnappers were armed to the teeth and no resident could challenge them until they finished their operations and taken the monarch away.
