Release our son’s body

The killer cop, corporal Abolarin in handcuffs at the magistrate court in Akure on Monday

The family of Dayo Adeola, the Akure South Local government staff that was killed by Muyiwa Abolarin, a police corporal, in Akure, Ondo State, last Thursday, has urged the police to release the corpse to them for burial.

The family made the request when they paid a visit to Tayo Oluwatuyi, the council chairman, yesterday, saying the deceased was a good Muslim before his death and so needed to be buried in line with Islamic injunctions.

Ahmed Adeola, the family spokesperson, said, “We are begging you to intervene so that the police will release the corpse of the late boy to us for burial according to Islamic injunction. Islam does not permit a corpse to be delayed before burial. We want you to use your good office to talk to the police to release the corpse of our son to us without any further delay.

Meanwhile, Olusegun Mimiko, the state governor, has paid a condolence visit to the local government over the death of Mr. Adeola.

The governor’s visit

The governor, who also visited the deceased’s family to commiserate with them, said the incident was sad and unfortunate. Mr. Mimiko added that the state had been peaceful until the recent crime upsurge within the state in the last few weeks.

“I must commend you for your maturity and the faith you have in our leadership,” Mr. Mimiko said. “For refusing to take laws into your hands, I’m very proud of you. You have demonstrated a high sense of maturity which shows that we are civilized in Ondo State.”

The governor assured the people of the state, of their government’s determination to sustain the prevailing peace and tranquillity in the state.

Mr. Abolarin was last Monday charged before an Akure Magistrate Court for murder, after a summary dismissal by the police authorities on Saturday.
